A Very Tragic Thing

As I sit here writing this with tears literally streaming down my face, I am engulfed with emotion at the news I just heard.  Hutcheson Medical Center was attacked by a gunman tonight.  I worked there for over thirty years and have so many people whom I love deeply that are still there.  Praise the Lord that none them were physically harmed.  But, I know that it is in the nature of my dear friends there to be emotionally distraught at the tragedy that has occurred. A disturbed person carried a loaded gun into the hospital and people were injured, some critically.   I do not know what prompted this action of violence at a hospital where people are expecting to feel safe.  HMC employees have been bombarded with bad publicity, but they are not deserving of their reputation.  My friends at HMC strive to give compassionate, quality care and take pride in their work all the while having the stress of poor management.  As people tend to take any negative publicity and run with it, I am sure that this latest horrible incident, that is no fault of anyone at HMC, will add to pessimistic attitudes of the public.  I pray that God will give comfort to those in need at HMC and understanding to others.

No Dirt

I had to go to the Walmart today.  I was looking to buy some dirt, you know, Miracle Grow, the stuff that saves potted plants.  I have one in serious need of revival.  It is probably a good fifteen years old so I hate to let it go without at least trying to salvage it!  Well anyway, I could not find any bags of dirt.
The garden department has been transformed into a mystical wonderland of artificial trees decorated with shiny balls and ribbons.  The shelves were all lined with your choice of color coordinated decorations that are meant to entice the most discriminate decorator.  There were  grand displays of blow up snowmen and charming St. Nicks among the glitter covered poinsettias. I found twinkling tinsel, sparkling icicles, and silvery snow scenes, but no dirt.
So, I ventured into the main part of the superstore.  I was thinking that maybe I could find a left over bag of the black stuff on a clearance rack.  What I found were pre-packaged gifts on the ends of every aisle.  There was something for everyone, or so it seemed, because people were rushing about  and filling their buggies with cosmetics, cologne, bright holiday clothing, coffee makers and what-nots.  (If  you are from the south, you know what a what-not is.)
I progressed on to the grocery area where massive quantities of cranberry sauce, candied yams, and boxes of stuffing mix were strategically placed on the end caps.  There was a huge collection of chocolate, sugar, nuts, and spices for all your baking needs.  Too bad nobody cooks with dirt.
I left the store overwhelmed  with seasonal depression, and I still didn't have any dirt.  All I wanted was some dirt.
